第一段经历是，她在大四结束后，她以探索研究藏药为由，申请获得了“Martin A.Dale '53 Fellowship”2万美金的项目经费。2000年，整个一年，她都在西藏生活，研究藏药。她的课题是“藏医学医理与西医学的比较”。课题的合作者是西藏藏医院消化科，一个临床课题是：“关于藏药治疗幽门螺旋杆菌感染带症病人的初步结果”。这一课题得到西藏藏医院院长占堆的鼎力支持。占堆院长慧眼识珠玑，极力推崇这一将藏医药介绍给世界的课题，他还极力推荐李飞飞的论文在此次学术会议的首日会上宣读。
第二段经历是，2017年底她筹建谷歌中国AI中心。开业时的李飞飞，是激动的，她声情并茂地表达了对中国的热爱。她说：“中国是我的家乡，我生在这里，在这里长大，我的很多家人、朋友和同事都还在这里生活和工作，我的心也一直牵挂着这里。”
